Why Don't I Respond to Online Comments?

It's really a matter of time. I just don't have enough of it to respond to every single comment made on the blogs, videos, and webpages I have made over the years. As of today, I have written 1466 blog articles , 1000+  webpages , and produced 95 videos . That also means I get a lot of comments on a daily basis... About 50 comments per day. And although in my early years I did respond to comments, I just don't have time to do so anymore as I have produced more content which …

Fauquier ENT Social Media Update

About once per year, I like to reassess how Fauquier ENT is doing online ever since it was digitally born in 2005. And over the years, I am happy to say it has grown substantially beyond anything anyone would have expected. I would like to think it's because quality and trusted information is provided, but who knows? Overall, the website now gets about 28,000 hits per day or almost one million hits per month. Since 2005, it has received more than 13 million views. Of these, there has…

How To Create a Customized Fancy Email Signature

Have you ever wondered how some people obtained those really fancy looking email signatures at the end of their emails? I've always wondered how they did that as well. And until recently, I just looked on with envy until I took the time to figure it out. Here's an image of one I created for myself: So how did I do it? Well, there's the free way and the not-free way. Of course, the not-free way is perhaps the easiest way to obtain a fancy email signature. Wisestamp is perhap…

Is Social Media Bad for Doctors?

I was recently asked to participate as a speaker in a panel discussion on social media next year in Canada and while preparing my thoughts on this subject, I was pondering several big questions regarding the why and pitfalls of social media for healthcare professionals. There's the obvious "WHY" a physician should participate in social media . But perhaps even a more basic concern for a physician deciding whether to pursue social media or not is whether it may even be a bad …

Does Social Media Advance Medical Knowledge?

According to a recent paper, the answer is absolutely! A survey was distributed via email to a random sample of 1695 practicing physicians in the United States in March 2011 with responses from 485 physicians (28.61%). Rather than rehashing what was said, I quote from the abstract, Overall, 117 of 485 (24.1%) of respondents used social media daily or many times daily to scan or explore medical information, whereas 69 of 485 (14.2%) contributed new information via social media on a dai…

How To Approach Social Media as a Physician

Last year, I expressed why I bother blogging as a busy surgeon... but this article is more about how to approach social media as a physician. There are numerous advice on the web how to get individuals and businesses involved in social media. Though much of this generic advice is applicable to surgeons and physicians, there are unique limitations as well as opportunities that apply only to such healthcare professionals. I've also reached a few conclusions of my own regarding deve…

As A Busy Physician, Why Do I Even Bother Blogging?

As a busy ENT surgeon in private solo practice (read about me ), there are several reasons why I blog ( FauquierENT ) even though I am already quite busy in my medical practice. To stay up to date . There are two aspects to this statement. The first is that I am always reading journals and enjoy sharing interes…
