A new video has been uploaded to YouTube describing how a nasal fracture is fixed without sedation, although this procedure can also be easily performed while asleep too. The official name of the surgical procedure described here is called "closed nasal reduction with splint." For more information on nasal fractures as well as facial fractures in general, click here . Special thanks to Nick Gallo of Physical Therapy 101 who volunteered to be the patient in this video. Chec…

Although the vast majority of nosebleeds are more annoying than life-threatening, some are so severe that an ER visit is required. At other times, nosebleeds occur not unexpectedly after sinus surgery, rhinoplasty, or some other type of nasal surgery. Cross-Section showing relationship of septum, sinus, eye, and brain There is an active abhorrence between blood thinner medications and ENT surgeons. Not only do blood thinners markedly increase risk of nosebleeds which often require nasal packing (even without surgery), but it can complicate any type of sino-nasal surgery, particularly septoplasty and sinus surgery . In these situations, nasal packing is the fastest and best way of stopping the nosebleed. For any type of active bleeding, direct pressure tamponades the bleeding thereby stopping it... whether it be a stab wound to the leg or a bad nosebleed . In essence, direct pressure exerts a cert…
