Does Sinus and/or Nasal Surgery Help with Sleep Apnea?

Bluntly, the answer is not really... Although it may make sense that improving nasal airflow should help with obstructive sleep apnea , the reality is that it does not make a profound difference. Indeed, there was a study in 2014 that looked into this question. In this study , 3 groups of patients were looked at divided into patients with mild, moderate, or severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). These patients underwent sinus surgery , septoplasty , and turbinate reduction . What was found …

Actress Jennifer Aniston Underwent Septoplasty Twice

Though not entirely recent news, actress Jennifer Aniston reportedly underwent septoplasty nasal surgery not just once, but twice. Septal Stapler for Septoplasty Surgery

Septoplasty is a surgical procedure whereby the septum, which is the wall that separates the right and left nasal cavities, is straightened out. Read more details of the surgery here . In fact, if the nasal appearance DID change afterwards, you would also have undergone rhinoplasty nose job... or too much was unintentionally removed. The explanation for why the nasal appearance does not (should not) change after septopl…

How Does A Deviated Septum Cause A Nosebleed?

Over the years, I have been asked by a number of patients with deviated septums why that would make them more prone to nosebleeds . Well, this blog article is to answer that very question. First off, a little anatomy... A nasal septum is a wall that separates the right nasal cavity from the left side. Normally, this septum should be perfectly straight. However, in some people, the septum may be deviated causing not only nasal obstruction, but increases the risk of nosebleeds. When…

How to Get Insurance to Pay for Rhinoplasty Nosejob!

Well... at least part of the cost. I learned of this from a patient who came to see me in order to obtain an "independent ENT evaluation" regarding her deviated septum . In essence, in order for insurance to pay part of the cost of one's rhinoplasty, a few things need to happen. Step 1: See a plastic surgeon who will perform your nosejob rhinoplasty. If the plastic surgeon notes a deviated septum or if you also have a significant nasal obstruction , see an ENT . If the pla…
