This video creation was a collaborative effort between myself and Dr. Henson, the general surgeon who performed the actual operation portrayed in the video. Assistance by Robin Earl and the surgical staff at Fauquier Hospital were invaluable as well.

Great summary of the risks and complications, Dr. Chang, although you might want to warn the squeamish that the video might make them pass out!! I just posted a link to this post on my blog, www.talkingnow.ca. My right recurrent laryngeal nerve was severed during thyroid surgery in 2004 (thyroplasty restored my voice), and I lost at least 2 parathyroids. Fortunately, these complications are quite rare. Why don't you perform thyroid surgery anymore? Heather

I had mine out - and lost my voice. So ends my career as a music teacher. People do not go into this surgery unaware - get an expert not a generalist. The complications have been awful. I can't breathe. All over a routine surgeey
