When a person cries, it is common for the nose to start running. Essentially what happens is that the tears actually drain from the eye into and then out the nose. Tears are normally produced by the lacrimal gland located on the upper outer corner of the eye as well as the conjunctiva in order to protect the eyes and keep them moist.
